Social commitment
in place of season’s greetings

The company replaces its Christmas campaign with sponsoring an AIDS project in Africa

Ferdinand Eisele breaks with tradition: From 2008, no more calendars, greeting cards and presents are going to be sent out. Instead of that, the company is going to permanently support an assistance project in South Africa and to take over the sponsorship for five children.

“With the increasing internationalisation of our clientele our traditional end-of-year campaigns for our customers were making less and less sense”, General Manager Alex Schickel says about his decision. “Chocolate and Christmas greetings just do not mean much to a Muslim in Saudi Arabia.”

That is why the company decided to use the annual budget which was assessed to the Christmas campaigns in a rather sustainable manner. An appropriate project was quickly found: The company is now supporting an assistance project for AIDS orphans in South Africa together with the association “Kindernothilfe” (children’s emergency assistance) as competent partners.

RFID Starter Kit
smaRT))start shows what electronic labels can do with jewellery and watches.

Electronic labels, so–called RFID tags, are conquering one line of business after the other at the moment and neither industry nor trade would be able to do without them. In the field of jewellery and watches, everybody interested can now test with the smaRT))start kit what RFID technology can contribute to their own business.

„We intend to address our technically interested customers with our starter kit“, says Alex Schickel, General Manager of Ferdinand Eisele GmbH, Birkenfeld. „Last year we were able to demonstrate with smaRT))-Shop at the international jewellery tradefair in Basle what opportunities and advantages this new technology theoretically offers to the jewellery and watches industry. In 2008, with smaRT))start, we are offering a tool to jewellers, wholesalers and manufacturers in order to get to know the potential and the limits of RFID technology in their own environment.“

smaRT))-Tags are hardly larger than ordinary labels and additionally re-usable in an almost unlimited way. For the necessary information during the sales talk they are marked with self-adhesive labels accordingly printed.

Future Store for Jewellers
Electronic labels open up new opportunities to retail market

Metro has already had the Future Store for a long time. The retail giant has been experimenting with the new technologies for five years and opened a futuristic shop to the public in Rheinberg, Germany, in 2003 based on the gained experience.

In the Metro Future Store intelligent shelves record products that were wrongly sorted and report the items for reordering when falling short of a minimum quantity. The customer anticipates the checkout procedure while shopping thanks to a mobile computer which is installed on the trolley. Therewith the person then actuates the payment operation at a self-pay-checkout – without any checkout personnel. Science-fiction seems to have become reality in the Future Store for trade in the field of food and consumer products.

The main feature of this technology now implements smaRT))-Inventory for the requirements of the jewellery and watches industry. On the occasion of the jewellery fair in Basel, the software house AEB IT-Systeme and Ferdinand Eisele, specialist for labels and identification technology, will present with smaRT))-Shop their version of the Future Store for jewellers on a joint booth.

Inventory Tuning
Stock Monitoring turns inventory into a daily routine

“Closed for inventory” – once a year this sign keeps away customers from many jeweller’s shops and wholesalers. A lost day for turnover and sales figures. A strenuous day for employees and shop owners. Counting, calculating, estimating is the job, and all this manually. There has been no escape so far, not even for users of modern stock management systems. But there is change in the air. In a future not far away, Stock Monitoring shall speed up inventory.

Stock Monitoring stands as a synonym for permanent inventory, based on an innovative labelling solution for a new form of product registration. It works even faster than bar code – without single scanning procedure for each product – and it even makes daily inventory possible.
